In the month of June, dedicated to environmental preservation actions, Usina Coruripe reinforced its commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness. With more than 7 thousand hectares of Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs), the company has carried out, in recent weeks, several educational and conservation initiatives, including lectures for municipal school students and the planting of seedlings. 102l1w

Recently, the company opened a seedling nursery at the Maria Tonini da Silva Municipal School, located in Limeira do Oeste, in the Triângulo Mineiro. The event took place on June 13th, in partnership with the city hall, and was marked by the presence of local authorities. The company also actively engaged in environmental awareness by promoting a lecture on climate change at the Professor Lázaro Rosa Muniz Municipal School, in Pirajuba, in the Triângulo Mineiro. The event, in partnership with the Department of the Environment, reached 503 students, aged between 5 and 11, as well as teachers and staff. In Iturama, also in the Triângulo Mineiro, 250 high school teenagers from the Tiradentes State School participated in lectures on the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN, with the aim of raising awareness about how human actions can interfere with the quality of the environment.

In Alagoas, the Environment Day celebrations at the Coruripe unit were marked by practical activities, including an ecological trail with the participation of the company's young apprentices and students from a municipal school in the region. The highlight was the planting of seedlings on the banks of the Coruripe River in a symbolic gesture of caring for the environment and preserving the region's natural resources. "For us, educating about the environment means inspiring changes in behavior and promoting a critical look at our daily practices. This is how we build a more sustainable and conscious future", says Mariluci Pinheiro Rossi, director of istration and Human Resources at Usina Coruripe.

The company also encourages sustainable practices in other companies. Last year, it launched the Sustainable Partnerships project, an initiative that gives partner companies the possibility to participate in projects developed or ed by Coruripe. "We understand sustainability as a commitment that permeates every aspect of our operations. We are focused on creating a positive environmental legacy that benefits both the communities where we operate and future generations", says the president of Usina Coruripe, Mario Lorencatto.

Permanent initiatives

The company develops several socio-environmental responsibility projects, with the preservation of forests in the states where it operates. In total, there are five Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs): Porto Cajueiro, in the municipality of Januária, in the North of Minas; Pereira and Lula Lobo, in Feliz Deserto, on the coast of Alagoas; and Riacho Seco and Afrânio Menezes, in Coruripe (AL). In these areas, there is work to preserve fauna and flora, partnerships with researchers in environmental education, ecological trails, research development and a mammal monitoring project, which helps in the development of strategies and actions for the protection, conservation and management of species.

In Alagoas, Coruripe has a structure equipped to produce up to 80 thousand seedlings from the Atlantic Forest, which are used for reforestation and forest restoration. In addition to producing seedlings to form ecological corridors, the company works environmentally by monitoring springs, banks of streams and rivers. It also maintains partnerships with environmental agencies and entities to release animals captured in clandestine captivity.

In the RPPN Porto Cajueiro, located in the municipality of Januária, one of the highlights is the Bicudo Project, which reintroduced some specimens of the bird into the reserve, with the aim of recovering the population, which, after decades of illegal hunting, was on the list of animals extinct. In the unit, more than 70 thousand reforestation seedlings have already been produced. There is also the collection of information to inventory amphibian species in areas of the Carinhanha River, in order to identify effective fauna conservation measures. In partnership with the State Forestry Institute (IEF), the company maintains a firefighting program in the region.

Coruripe recently invested R$2.2 million in socio-environmental projects. Furthermore, since 2005, it has fully ed the Institute for Social and Ecological Development (Idese), which contributes to community progress and nature preservation, through socio-environmental and sporting actions. Activities are also carried out with communities to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining biodiversity in these regions.
